How to Edit a Canva Stream Template: Panels, Schedules and Banners
Open the link, edit text without breaking the layout, match your colours, and export with the right settings for Twitch panels, socials and Discord — on a free Canva account.
Editable stream templates — panels, schedules, banners — usually come as a Canva template link. You open the link, Canva creates your own copy, you change the text and colours, and you download the result as PNG for static graphics or MP4/GIF for animated ones. A free Canva account is enough. This guide covers the whole process, the export settings for each platform, and the mistakes that make a good template look home-made.
Step 1: Open the template link
- Log in to Canva (free or Pro).
- Open the template link from your download — it is usually inside a PDF or text file.
- Click Use template for new design. Canva opens an editable copy in your own account.
Your copy is saved under Projects. Rename it straight away — "Stream Schedule — Master" — so you can find it next week.
Step 2: Edit text without breaking the layout
- Double-click to edit the text in place rather than deleting the text box and drawing a new one. The original box keeps the font, size, spacing and animation.
- Keep the length similar. Templates are designed around words of a certain length. "Mon" fits where "Monday" may not; "Variety" fits where "Variety Games Night With Friends" will not.
- Do not shrink text to make it fit. Panels display at 320 px wide; small text becomes unreadable. Shorten the words instead.
- Use the template's fonts. If you swap fonts, swap them everywhere — one stray font is the fastest way to make a set look mismatched.
Step 3: Change colours to match your brand
Select an element and click the colour square in the top toolbar. Canva shows the colours already used in the design under Document colours — change those rather than picking new ones at random, and the whole set stays coherent.
If you have a stream palette, write down its hex codes and use them on every template: panels, schedule, offline screen, Discord banner. The goal is that someone sees a graphic on X or Discord and recognises your channel before they read the name. More on that in building a setup that looks like one design.

Step 4: Download with the right settings
Click Share → Download and choose the file type:
| Use | File type | Notes |
| Twitch panels | PNG | Max 320 px wide, under 1 MB. Static works best — panels are read, not watched. |
| Animated schedule for X, Instagram, Discord | MP4 | Keep quality at the default to download on the free plan; free MP4 goes up to 1920 × 1080. |
| Animated schedule where video is not supported | GIF | Free plan: up to 1 minute and 1280 × 720. GIF files get large fast. |
| Channel banner, offline screen | PNG or JPG | Check each platform's size requirements before exporting. |
For multi-page designs such as a panel set, Canva asks which pages to download. Choose all pages and you get a ZIP with one image per panel, ready to upload. Panel sizes and what each one should say are covered in Twitch panel sizes and what to put in them.
A weekly schedule routine that takes two minutes
- Keep one master copy of your schedule in Canva.
- Each week, duplicate the page (the copy icon above the page) and edit the duplicate.
- Change only what changed — days, games, times.
- Download as MP4 for socials, PNG for your Twitch schedule panel.
- Post it at the same time every week, so followers know where to look.
Always include a time zone, or better, two: your own and the one most of your viewers are in. "8 PM" means nothing to someone on another continent. Our stream schedule guide covers what makes a schedule people actually follow.
Common problems and fixes
A watermark appears on my download.
You have used a Canva Pro element — a photo, graphic or font marked with a crown — on a free account. Replace that element with a free one, or remove it.
Canva asks me to upgrade when I download a video.
On the free plan, changing MP4 quality from the default triggers the upgrade prompt. Leave quality on the default.
The text looks blurry on Twitch.
The panel was exported larger than 320 px wide and Twitch scaled it down, or the text is too small. Export at the template's original size and use fewer, bigger words.
The animation does not play on Twitch panels.
Panels accept GIF, but animated files hit the 1 MB limit quickly. Use a static PNG for the panel and post the animated version on socials and Discord.
I edited the template and want the original back.
Open the template link again and click Use template for new design — you get a fresh copy. Your edited version stays in Projects.
